»Classics for the Classroom Posters:
Diana and Actaeon was commissioned by Philip II of Spain. The painting was finished sometime between 1556 – 1559. The painting it meant to show when the hunter Actaeon stumbled across the goddess Diana bathing (to the Greeks she was known as Artemis). She cursed him to never speak, for if he did he would be changed into a stag. When he heard others from his hunting party yelling he also tried to yell out to them. He was instantly changed into a stag and the hunter became the hunted.
