»Classics for the Classroom Posters:
Portrait of Dr. Gachet was painted by Van Gogh in June 1890. It was painted at his doctor,s home in Auvers-sur-Oise. The painting is of the doctor who helped to take care of him in the final years of his life. He did two of these with a similar image but very different in style and color. Both have the doctor looking quite melancholy. Of the doctors expression Van Gogh wrote to a friend that the doctor’s face showed, “the heartbroken expression of our time".
